Our Story

Founder Cooper Sage decided to turn his dream of starting a coffee company into a reality by starting Sage Coffee Collective in 2024. Sage Coffee is a micro coffee roaster with the mission of bringing people together through small batch coffee.

Cooper has worked in the coffee industry since he was 16 years old, and knew right away that he was in love with the coffee world. After more than a decade later in the industry his vision started taking shape after getting the opportunity apprentice under a head roaster in San Diego and spearheading a roasting program for Moniker Coffee Co.

In June of 24', Kate and Cooper made a move up north to Sacramento as he took a new job as the Head Roaster with Remedy Supply Co. This position allowed Cooper to stay within the industry and further his experience within roasting, and continue growing Sage Coffee Collective.

Our Mission is to build community through specialty coffee, humble service, and the virtue of hospitality.

"Sage Coffee Collective is built upon three core purposes.

To CREATE, to SERVE, and to CONNECT.

Our hope with this business is to use coffee as the vessel in which to achieve these virtues."

Our "Roast to Order" Model

We are a small business and proud of it. Being small may have its challenges but we believe the advantages our size far out weigh them and differentiate ourselves amongst others in the industry.

QUALITY over QUANTITY.

We source the highest quality green from micro-lots across the globe. All the coffees we source score an 84 or better at origin on the SCA green coffee scale (Specialty Coffee is requires a score of 80 or above).

Part of our strategy is adopting a "Roast to Order" model where we roast all our coffees after an order is placed. This model enables us to maximize efficiency, minimize waste, and ultimately provide you the freshest coffee on the market.

Kate and I are bootstrapping the start of Sage Coffee Collective with all of our own money out of pocket and the goal of not taking on any debt. While this will undoubtedly create difficulties and run into the frustrations of finite resources; we are confident that this strategy will make us better owners and operators, maximize efficiencies, and form sustainable habits that will pay dividends for years to come.

"Starting a coffee brand is no small feat, having our own unique set of skills and talents to bring to the brand has already proved valuable.

While I tackle the coffee world, Kate has tackled all things creative like creating our logo, directing brand aesthetic, and designing our website.

I feel extremely blessed to not be doing this on my own, and to be embarking on this journey together."

Our Logo

The old man in our logo is our interpretation of a wise sage. Other than Sage being our last name, we chose to name our brand Sage Coffee Collective because we always want to be striving towards living out a life of wisdom. There is no short cut to gaining wisdom, and it can only be found in the process: learning from experience, failure, success, and peers. To be wise you must be fully committed to always learning and growing, and you can't be afraid to put in the work. We feel committed to this call and so that's why we are starting this. Here goes nothing!
